With abundant courage and optimism, young Tommy Kehoe joins the British Army in search of his own storybook adventure. After fibbing about his youthful age of sixteen years, he is sent to war-torn France to serve in the trenches during World War I. With the help of loyal friends, staunch commanders, and fat rats, Tommy experiences the struggles and triumphs of war. Even a century later, his honest, detailed, sometimes humorous and sometimes heart-wrenching account of life in the trenches provides a unique memoir of the Great War.
