Window Star Tutorial: Celebrate LIGHT!

Like The Mindful Heart, the Waldorf philosophy of education also focuses on engaging the head, heart, and hands of a child through thinking, feeling, and doing. Many educational philosophies have these TRUE heart-education principles at their core and I love taking bits and pieces to create a beautiful homeschooling life for my family.

One Waldorf tradition we have adopted is making kite paper window stars each winter. We celebrate the Winter Solstice on December 21st by making a few new stars for our kitchen window to remind us of the all-powerful force of LIGHT throughout the year. Making these stars during the dark days of winter brings us so much peace, joy, and hope for the spring and the new life that is just around the corner!

It's always a good time to make window stars, however, and there are many free tutorials to get you started. Here are some that we have used to fill our windows with beautiful color and light:

*NOTE* Some tutorials use tissue paper or origami paper, but I HIGHLY recommend kite paper (affiliate links below). It's much easier to work with and the colors are so much more vibrant.

Window stars are a wonderful handicraft for read-aloud or any time for both boys and girls. If you make some, be sure to post and tag us on Instagram @the.mindful.heart and on Facebook @themindfulheartMH!

Enjoy making these beautiful stars. They will bring an extra special light into your home!
